Powering up synergies: industrial heat pumps and district heating and cooling for system integration

The session will showcase how industrial heat pumps and district heating and cooling (DHC) systems can enhance energy system integration and flexibility for a stable, resilient, and decarbonised energy system.
As the EU progresses its clean, competitive, and just energy transition, the integration of heating and cooling with the electricity sector is more critical than ever.
Large-scale heat pumps and district heating and cooling (DHC) systems offer practical solutions to key challenges such as grid variability, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and advancing local renewable energy adoption. Their ability to stabilise grids, store energy efficiently, and enable clean energy use makes them indispensable for achieving the EU's energy goals.
This session aims to inspire policymakers and stakeholders to scale these transformative solutions, laying the groundwork for the upcoming Heating and Cooling Strategy and the Electrification Action Plan.
