State Aid: New support scheme in the Czech Republic will drive the growth of Green District Heating

The scheme will run for three years with a budget of 401 million EUR, providing support in the form of operating aid for heat generation.

In April, the European Commission approved a new scheme to promote the growth and fuel mix diversification of District Heating in the Czech Republic.

The scheme will run for three years with a budget of 401 million EUR and will provide support in the form of operating aid to heat generation for installations with a capacity above 500 kW. The scheme will support District Heating using biomass sources and waste heat. The scheme is expected to support the installation of approximately 345 MWt of renewable heat generation capacity (source: Commission).

This decision comes after last year’s approval of a scheme to promote Efficient District Heating as part of the Modernisation Fund.
