District Energy – the resilient energy infrastructure

District energy systems are one of those infrastructures that can provide superior resilience compared to individual systems.

We are living in changing time, where not only climate and political landscape is changing but also the expectations of users to uptime of services are getting more and more demanding. To live up to expectations it is important to design system such that they not only can cope with unexpected disturbances but also such that if the disturbances lead to a total collapse of the system that they can quickly be brought back in service. In this article, few of the points that make district energy systems exceptionally resilient are discussed.
