Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), the only technological university in Estonia, is the flagship of Estonian engineering and technology education. TalTech relies on academic competencies and professional management, responds actively to the needs of the rapidly developing society and is involved in tackling the challenges of the digital era.
The Department of Energy Technology (DET) at TalTech is the leading research institution in Estonia that studies various aspects of district heating (DH), and the only institution in Estonia involved with thermal engineering at the university level. DET maintains ongoing partnerships with government authorities and agencies, municipalities, energy policymakers, heat suppliers, and consumers. Thanks to the valuable contribution of DET researchers, many large-scale and small-scale DH systems in Estonia are undergoing constant renovation and modernization. Department research activities are connected with the analysis of Existing large-scale DH system transition towards 4th generation DH, district cooling, thermal energy storage integration, large heat pumps, energy planning.
