The Estonian Open Air Museum introduces Estonian rural architecture and village life.

In the museum's 14 farms, you can get an overview of how people lived in the 18th-20th centuries. As always in a proper village, there is a church, a tavern, a school house, mills, a spray shed, a village store, net houses by the sea. You can buy handicrafts, ride a horse or try Estonian national food in a peasant tavern.

For the opening event you will have a cultural programme and a lovely evening in beautiful nature by the sea.

This lecture will focus on mandatory smart metering and on how all the smart meter data creates new possibilities for district heating operators. Data and digital solutions are creating a new paradigm where traditional simulation based tools can be turned into fully data-driven and fact based solutions. All with the purpose to fight complexity and optimize grids towards a sector coupled future, where green and energy efficient district heating is based on renewables and waste heat. Furthermore digitalization is an important driver for new and attractive end-user services, making district heating a preferred choice in the ongoing heat transitions across Europe.

In this course practical examples and experience regarding innovative district heating and district cooling will be explained. Which tools and calculations are used to perform engineering for DHC pipelines. How is it possible to transfer the existing high temperature district heating networks into low temperature networks? Feasibility analysis will be shown. Also there will be explained benefits and problems of LTDH solutions (for all parties - DH operators, municipalities, customers, developers)

This course will enhance participant's knowledge on the integration of waste heat into DHC system. It will focus on new methods and tools to assess waste heat potential from different sources e.g. wastewater, industry, SME.

Furthermore, participants will learn how to integrate heat pumps in order to link low-temperature heat sources to the temperature level of different district heating systems.

Innovative business models for waste heat recovery

This lecture will address business models and their implications. It will focus on:

1. The conventional DH business model and the difference between it and low temperature DH business models
2. The business model 2050 (results from a research project)
3. The business implications of including waste heat (risk exposure, contracts)

Participants will be asked to complete a small taks which will require working in a group.

Planning of energy efficiency renovation of a city district: Võru case

Under the leadership of the FinEst Smart City Center of Excellence, the energy-efficient renovation planning software of a city quarter was piloted in the city of Võru, as a result of which the most economically rational solution for the renovation of the buildings there was developed. What investments to make in buildings, how the energy consumption and carbon footprint of buildings change, how much should be invested - these questions can be answered by the developed software.
