Heating is often called “the hidden giant” when talking about energy demands. After focusing on electricity for a long time, policy-makers have broadened their focus to this matter. However, in the shadow of this giant, cooling in all its facets plays a significant – and growing – role in the energy system. Parallel to the European Commission’s efforts towards a European Strategy on Heating & Cooling, stakeholders from a broad varieties of sectors providing cooling (technologies) or demanding chilling, cooling or refrigeration, have joined forces to raise awareness for this Cinderella of the energy system.
Following two initial meetings in April (download meeting report) and June 2016, a first set of stakeholders agreed to jointly work to increase awareness for chilling, cooling and refrigeration. Under the umbrella of coolingEU, these and other stakeholders involved in cooling offer a platform for information exchange, data gathering and dissemination of cooling knowledge. coolingEU is an informal forum of actors striving to improve the understanding of the matter. Associations, companies, research institutes, public actors, institutions, universities and any other entities and individuals are welcome to join the quest.
If you are interested in joining the group of stakeholders, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
