Euroheat & Power is the international network for district energy, promoting sustainable heating and cooling in Europe and beyond.
We are a non-for-profit association headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, which unites the district energy sector. Our members come from over thirty countries around the globe and include national district heating and cooling associations, utilities operating district energy systems, industrial associations and companies, manufacturers, universities, research institutes and consultancies active in the sector.
Our research addresses the greatest challenges facing us in the future: people need health, energy, well-functioning political and social systems and an intact environment. These are complex questions, and we are seeking the answers in the interaction between many different disciplines. In so doing, our research work embraces three major themes: regions fit for living in, diversity as a life-enhancing feature, a healthy society.
To undertake research is to challenge conventional ways of thinking and to transcend limitations. Our open enterprise culture and flat organisational structure allow this investigative spirit to develop in the best possible interdisciplinary way, and with curiosity, enthusiasm, courage and perseverance we highlight problems from all possible angles and thereby arrive at exceptional solutions.
The aim of our work is to improve the future life of people. We often develop concrete solutions for regional problems which can then be applied elsewhere. We continually strive to open new paths with top quality research work, geared to the needs of people.
We are linked to other research networks all over the world and have partners in more than 50 countries on five continents. We collaborate with international organisations such as the Alpine and Carpathian Conventions, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) along with several space agencies.
Münster University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1 August 1971 after the merger of public and private schools of construction and engineering and vocational training institutions.
Over the years, Münster University of Applied Sciences has evolved into a practice-oriented, international and interdisciplinary university of applied sciences. Teaching staff and students contribute equally to the successful transfer of scientific findings to practice. This pays off: our establishment is now one of Germany’s largest and most successful universities of applied sciences.

Founded in 1983, Halmstad University is an independent university offering about 40 degree programmes and 200 courses in exciting, cutting-edge areas. It provides education and research in three key areas: Information Technology, Innovation Sciences, and Health and Lifestyle.
The HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim/Holzminden/Göttingen is a German state university in Lower Saxony. The university combines six faculties with more than 6000 students in three cities: Hildesheim, Holzminden and Göttingen.
HAWK’s research priorities are: laser and plasma technology, rural areas: social, economic and structural development prospects and, sustainable production and use of biogenic raw materials. The latter research area includes the research group “Sustainable Energy and Environmental technology (NEUTec)” which, among other topics, focuses on applied research and development in the field of energy technology and process engineering, waste management, as well as, environmental technology with a focus on: efficient increase of energy supply systems, decarbonisation of district heating systems and integration of RES, optimisation and integration of thermal storage, modelling and simulation of district heating systems, optimisation of biomass technology, solid biofuels and thermal processes such as pyrolysis and hydro-thermal carbonisation, as well as, life cycle analysis, sustainability and energy and climate protection management.
The Institute for Resource and Energy Strategies (IREES) works in the area of sustainable energy and resource utilisation, focusing on new technologies and services for energy and material efficiency in enterprises, buildings and low-emission production processes. IREES carries out interdisciplinary work in its own teams with close connections among the three business units: Energy Efficiency Company Networks, Energy Projections and Technologies and Socio-Scientific Evaluation. Here, among other things, analyses are made of market barriers and how to overcome them via policy measures and business self-organization, energy audits and strategies for enterprises and municipalities.
IREES is a private research institute established in 2006 and is active in climate change, sustainable development and energy efficiency in industry. Due to the vast diversity of specialized know-how required for such an activity, IREES works in close collaboration with other partners across Europe. IREES carries out research and consultations for several Federal Ministries in Germany, the European Commission, International Governmental Institutions and industrial companies.
